This is how I color drawings. The art in this tutorial is made by burgde
First find some art you want to color. I recommend liking the post, so it’s easier to remember who made it when you are going to credit it later.(Crediting the artist is a very important step!)

I choose this drawing of Clary and Jace (from the mortal instruments) by burgde:
Then make a new file in photoshop like this:
Then copy your drawing into photoshop with ctrl + V, and it should look something like this:
If you like me, have a drawing that’s not back and white add a saturation layer, and set the saturation to - 100, like this:
If your drawing is a little dark just add a brightness layer. (I did this a little later, but it’s better to do it at this point in the tutorial)
Then use the polygonal lasso tool and pick the thing you want to color, like Jace’s pants:Then use the brush-tool and fill in the space with your color. Make sure you have made a new layer on top of your original layer, or it won’t work. Set the layer to Linear burn, and if it looks to dark, set down the opacity a little. It should look something like this:Then just keep on doing the same thing till everything is done. Make sure to remember to make a new layer for each new color. If something have to sharp edges, just ad a little grassian blur and it will look better :)
When you have colored everything it should look something like this:If you want to you can stop here, but if you want more life to your coloring, you should add a new layer, and set it to soft light, like this:In this layer, set your colors to black and withe and highlight the things you want to stand out, and use black to make things darker and to make shadows. Use your brush-tool to do this. It should look a bit like this:And then just do the same with the rest of your drawing till it looks like this:It looks weird, I know, but now we’re gonna blend, blend, blend! After blending, you’re going to do this amazing thing I learned fromMatt, which is adding a gradient, like this:Then make sure the gradient layer is on top of all the other layers, and set it to soft light. Then you’re done! This is how my coloring ended up:
When you post itremember to credit the artist!
Please like this if this helped you, and if you have any questions leave them in my askbox
